Anne Bishton
Anne Bishton was born in 1958 in Sydney, Australia. Her family moved to New York City in 1969 and then to Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Anne attended Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island where she received a B.A. in Classics and Ancient Art History in 1980. After Brown, Anne attended the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City where she then resided. Anne was trained in fashion design, fashion illustration and drawing.
Anne started work as a fashion design assistant in New York City, working for several fashion designers in the capacities of Production Manager and Studio Design Director throughout most of the 1980's. In 1990 Anne bought a restaurant located in the East Village of New York City. She designed the new bistro's interior, which was featured in Vogue magazine and New York Magazine, in 1994. Commissions from private clients quickly followed, and interior design began to supplant fashion design as a passion and a vocation.
In 2000 Anne moved to New Orleans. After 25 wonderful years in New York it was time for a change. New Orleans, with its beautiful architecture and evocative history proved the perfect place to relocate. Anne worked as a professional decorative painter for five years while developing new skills and honing past talents as a 'hands-on' decorative painter for the fine homes of New Orleans. Anne found that historical stencils worked beautifully as overall patterns for walls and guided by her educational background in classical art history, she began to develop a stencil library which incorporated historical, contemporary and original pattern designs to supply a growing need for stenciled 'wallpaper.'
In 2005 Anne started her own decorative painting business, Anne Bishton Design, and her stencil company, Anne Bishton Stencils, out of a bright yellow traditional New Orleans 'shotgun' house. In addition to designing, cutting, and manufacturing custom-cut and commercial stencils for the professional designer, architect, painter and non-professional home user, Anne specializes in decorative painting for the home in the New Orleans, Mississippi, Alabama and Texas area with her company Anne Bishton Design. Glazing, plastering, gilding, stenciling, marbling, faux bois, trompe l'oeil, and hand painting are just some of the techniques used. Anne Bishton Design also refinishes furniture and mirrors and sells new furniture custom-finished to customers' specifications.
